Bus Crash Stories

Bus Crash Story 21

We live in a time saturated by bus crashes. What was once a normal thing for a man to say to his wife over his first cup of Nescafe, the crisp light prancing over his dewy lawn outside the window—“Let’s see if a bus crashed yesterday…”—before flipping through the paper to find its smallest, but often deadliest, article, has evolved. Because the times have evolved, and now, the same man, when he flips through the paper, fumbling around for the orange juice glass without looking, says something new: “Is there any chance a bus didn’t crash today?” And his wife, whose youth has left her, whose face has become lined, whose teeth have become stained, must reply with the solemn: “No.”
